On Mar. 18 just days after the FAA held a safety summit here in VA, a near miss was reported at California's Burbank (BUR) airport. A Southwest flight was on approach into BUR when ATC advised of a helicopter doing touch-and-go's. Seconds later ATC advised the Southwest flight to go around to avoid a collision. The event is now under investigation by the FAA, making it the 8th "near miss" under investigation by the FAA this year alone.
