Spirit Airlines Diverts Due To Battery Fire

Spirit flight NK259 departed Dallas (DFW) and was enroute to Orlando (MCO) when a battery caught fire in the overhead bin, forcing the flight to divert to Jacksonville (JAX). The A320 diverted to JAX safely, with cabin crews extinguishing the fire inflight. Ten people, both passengers & crew, were taken to the hospital after the incident. Its believed that a battery pack charging a device in a backpack was the cause of the fire, which also caused the cabin to fill with smoke.
