On Thursday, Feb. 23, a Turkish Airlines A321neo operating as TK1629 had just departed Istanbul (IST) and climbing out for Munich (MUN) when the engine failure happened. The A321 leveled off at 5,000ft and returned to the airport a short 40mins after it originally departed, landing safely with no injuries reported. Initial reports say the failure happened around 4,500ft and passengers reported seeing smoke and smelling jet fuel in the cabin. The aircraft stayed on the ground for 2 days for maintenance and was put back into service on Feb. 25.
